The filmmaker suggested that projects with serious content do not achieve commercial success, The Times of India reports.
Defending accusations that he promotes sex in his films, Bhatt said: "It is what sells. Why blame me when it is what people want to see, they buy tickets to watch my films."
The director cited the box office fate of Akshaye Khanna's recent corruption-themed release as an indication of audience tastes.
"Take the example of Gali Gali Chor Hai, it has had a dismal performance on the BO so I would not like to make films with any such message," said Bhatt
The director is currently working with former-adult entertainment actress Sunny Leone on Jism 2.
Bigg Boss star Leone recently said that it was an honour to work on the film.
