Barbadian singer Rihanna first broke onto the scene in 2005, ultimately cementing her place amongst pop royalty with the 2007 release of the Grammy-award winning song 'Umbrella'. The track topped charts around the world, including the Billboard Top 100 and the UK singles chart, where it stayed at No. 1 for ten consecutive weeks. Rihanna has notched up a further six US No. 1s in her career and four top five albums, all while maturing as a recording artist and experimenting with different images and sounds. Rihanna appeared in the headlines for all the wrong reasons in February 2009 after then-boyfriend Chris Brown was charged with domestic assault and graphic photos of her injuries began to circulate. She dated baseball player Matt Kemp for a period of time, but the pair have since split.
