Barbara Gordon will instead guest star as Nightwing in the comic, which spins directly out of the conclusion of the WB television show, reports Robot 6.
Rumours that the announcement by Bryan Q Miller had been overturned caused some confusion when raised at the Superman panel at San Diego Comic-Con International. The writer had previously said that Brown would appear with Batman in his debut on the franchise.
When the question was raised again during the New Wave panel, DC Comics co-publisher Dan DiDio confirmed that Brown is no longer a feature.
"That is true, and there's a reason for it," he said. "If we're going to introduce a character into the Smallville world, I want them to be the most iconic versions like Barbara Gordon or Dick Grayson, and maybe down the road we can do more."
Fans recently launched a mail campaign encouraging readers who wanted to see the return of Brown to the DC Universe to send waffles to the publisher's office.
