Dexter's comic book tie-in series has been delayed until early next year by Marvel Comics.

Jeff Lindsay's adaptation of his own prose book was original slated to arrive in October, but has now been postponed until January 2013, Bleeding Cool reports.

Marvel announced its ongoing Dexter series at the New York Comic Con in 2011, and later confirmed that Dalibor Talajic had joined the project to provide artwork.

Lindsay will write the comic within the same continuity as his novel series, which began with Darkly Dreaming Dexter in 2004 and has spawned five sequels to date.

Darkly Dreaming Dexter, which tells the story of a serial killer vigilante who works as a blood splatter expert, was adapted for television by Showtime in 2006. The series is about to enter its seventh season, but has deviated from the novels.

Marvel's Dexter will launch in January, 2013.
