The sequels will be released for Nintendo DS this summer, with further details yet to be confirmed.
Japanese developer Game Freak broke the news, teasing that the names of two new Pokemon from the titles will be revealed next week.
The games' launch will mark the first straight sequels in the core Pokemon series. Nintendo traditionally distinguishes new additions to the franchise by colour, rather than numbering.
Nintendo had been teasing the reveal for some time, though the new game was expected to be Pokemon Gray for the 3DS. The next entry in the popular series was widely tipped for the 3D handheld, rather than its predecessor.
Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon White 2 will be available in June.
