Ubisoft confirmed the much-rumoured title during its E3 press conference this evening (June 4).
The game features a new playable character named Murphy, who is controlled using the next generation console's tablet controller.
Players swipe the tablet's screen to control Murphy, using him to clear a path for Rayman to traverse and take out enemies.
Multiplayer mode is included for up to five players, as well as support for standard Wii Remotes.
Rayman Legends is expected to be included in the Wii U launch lineup.
