Developed primarily by former members of EA's Black Box studio, the project was uncovered by Superannuation (via Kotaku).
Described as a Team Fortress-style first-person shooter, the game is reportedly in the planning stages, awaiting PopCap's approval later this month.
A job listing for a designer requires an individual with previous experience working on a "shipped shooter or action title", to create "fun and polished multiplayer maps" with a "cartoon style and tone".
The candidate ideally would also have "experience designing levels where the player has a lot of freedom to manipulate the gameplay space (destruction, construction, modification)".
Plants vs. Zombies is a tower defence game, which originally launched for the PC in 2009.
The game has been ported to numerous systems, including the Xbox 360, PS3, iOS, Android and handhelds.
Earlier this year, a selection of Plants vs. Zombies merchandise was unveiled. The merch includes items of clothing, plush toys, posters and calendars.
