Pokemon-themed 3DS XL bound for Japan

Nintendo has unveiled a Pokemon-themed 3DS XL for release in Japan.

The gaming giant is launching a yellow edition of the handheld console with a white hinge in the territory, Andriasang reports.

Obtainable only by customers who pre-order, the branded system will be available exclusively from Japan's Pokemon Centre stores from September 15.

The Pikachu 3DS XL's release marks the launch of the first themed 3DS XL. Nintendo previously launched Zelda and Monster Hunter-themed models of the standard 3DS.

Nintendo released the 3DS XL in Europe and Japan last month, and will debut the system in North America tomorrow (August 19).

A UK release for the Pikachu 3DS XL is yet to be announced.
