The Times removes paywall from Marie Colvin's final report

The Times has lowered its website's paywall from Marie Colvin's final report.

The Sunday Times journalist was killed during shelling yesterday while reporting from Syria's besieged city of Homs.

Colvin's final report, headlined 'We live in fear of a massacre' and originally published on February 19, has now been made freely available to read without subscription to the newspaper's website.

"They call it the widows' basement," the piece opens.

"Crammed amid makeshift beds and scattered belongings are frightened women and children trapped in the horror of Homs, the Syrian city shaken by two weeks of relentless bombardment. "

In a comment on the article, reader Christopher Wood wrote: "R.I.P. If this is the article you will be remembered by then you will be remembered fondly and held in the highest regard - truly humbling."

Speaking at Prime Minister's Questions today, David Cameron paid tribute to the "talented and respected" Colvin, while leader of the opposition Ed Miliband described her as a "brave and tireless reporter".
