'Anonymous' Rafe Spall: 'I could see myself showing off in a frock'

Rafe Spall takes on the role of William Shakespeare in new blockbuster Anonymous, which represents something of a change of pace for disaster maestro Roland Emmerich. The period drama theorises that the Bard's work was actually penned by Edward De Vere, Earl of Oxford (as played by Rhys Ifans).

Speaking to Digital Spy, Spall revealed that he wrote a letter to Emmerich in order to secure the role over a more famous name, why he wanted to "show off in a nice frock" and his thoughts on the movie's tagline: Was Shakespeare a fraud?

Anonymous opens in UK cinemas tomorrow (October 28).
