The drama, co-written by and starring Noel Clarke, centres on a Team GB relay squad preparing for the World Athletics Championship in the UK. Alongside a familiar face in Being Human's Lenora Crichlow, the cast features Lily James, Lorraine Burroughs, Dominique Tipper and Lashana Lynch as the runners in pursuit of sporting glory.
Digital Spy sat down with the Fast Girls team to discuss making a feel-good British movie.
"This is an inspirational film, an aspirational film. It's got positive vibes, we've got the Olympics coming. The whole idea was to have a film that people could sit and enjoy and come out of smiling," Clarke said.
Director Regan Hall added that he took a specific stylistic approach to match the tone of the story.
"The thing with an uplifting, sports summer movie is you don't want it to be grey and blue and miserable and depressing," he said. "Hopefully people will get a smile on their face and walk out of the cinema uplifted. That's the plan."
