Michael Fassbender has entered talks to star in The Mountains Between Us.
Gerardo Naranjo's next film will be based on the 2010 novel by Charles Martin, reports Variety.
The tale centres on doctor Ben Payne and writer Ashley Knox, two strangers who find themselves injured and stranded in the mountains after their charter plane crashes.
The pair battle for survival and Knox slowly falls for Payne through the dutiful recordings he makes for his estranged wife.
Fassbender is due to take the role of Payne in the movie.
He has already appeared in Haywire this year, and will soon be seen in Ridley Scott's Prometheus.
He is also due to reunite with Shame director Steve McQueen on 12 Years a Slave.
Fassbender has also been linked to the X-Men: First Class sequel and Scott's Cormac McCarthy-scripted The Counselor.
