The Men in Black 3 helmer told Comic Book Movie that he has held talks with Warner Bros about reviving a 1960s property for the big screen.
"You know, I'm talking to Warner Bros about doing a franchise based on a comic that hasn't been around since the '60s. But it's too early to talk about it," he said.
The comic in question is expected to be from DC Comics' catalogue given that Warner holds the screen rights to its library, although it is unlikely to be a household name given Sonnenfeld's comments about its time frame.
Sonnenfeld's Men in Black films are based on a comic series first published in 1990 by Aircel Comics. The property was later acquired by Marvel Comics subsidiary Malibu Comics.
Men in Black 3 is released in cinemas on May 25.
