Colin Farrell, Sam Rockwell in 'Seven Psychopaths' character posters

Seven character posters for Martin McDonagh's Seven Psychopaths have been released.

The images focus on each of the eponymous seven characters, all of whom are involved in Los Angeles' criminal underworld to varying degrees.

Struggling screenwriter Marty (Colin Farrell) is forced to go on the run with his two shady best friends (Sam Rockwell and Christopher Walken) after they kidnap a psychotic gangster's (Woody Harrelson) beloved Shih Tzu.

Olga Kurylenko plays Rockwell's love interest, while Abbie Cornish is Marty's "passive-aggressive girlfriend", and Tom Waits rounds out the cast as the group's mysterious bunny-carrying ally.

Seven Psychopaths, which released its international trailer earlier this week, reunites writer-director McDonagh with his In Bruges star Farrell.

Mickey Rourke was originally cast in Harrelson's role, but dropped out partway through shooting and went on to call McDonagh "a jerkoff".

The posters were released by Coming Soon, Entertainment Weekly, Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, MTV, Hitfix and Vulture.

Seven Psychopaths will be released on October 12 in the US, and December 7 in the UK. Watch the international trailer below:
