The 'One More Lie..' singer was frequently lampooned on the show, the title of which was taken from David's 'Re-Rewind' collaboration with The Artful Dodger.
Though he has criticised the programme in the past, David told Metro that it did not ruin his music career.
He said: "It didn't come on to my radar as much as people thought it did. It never interrupted my music. It was just a show with a cult following.
"People got tired of repeating the catchphrase to me because I didn't give them a reaction. I believe music's the most powerful way of responding."
When asked if he was worried about his recent flop singles, he responded: "No. Every song reflects where you are at that moment. I've never released a record that didn't represent where I was at that time.
"Sometimes the stars need to align. Even if a song doesn't connect sales-wise it matters more whether or not I've been happy with the record. It's when you chase commercial success that you're on a slippery slope."
