Adele and Ed Sheeran were the big winners at tonight's Brit Awards at London's O2 Arena.

The 'Rolling in the Deep' singer continued her award-winning streak by taking home the 'British Female Solo Artist' and 'British Album' prizes.
Accepting her award for 'British Female', she told the crowd: "It's been an amazing year, I want to thank my record company for letting me be the artist I've always wanted to be."

Ed Sheeran took home two of the four awards he was nominated for. The singer-songwriter won the 'British Male Solo Artist' and 'British Breakthrough Act' as voted for by listeners of Radio 1.

Upon receiving his 'Breakthrough' award, he said: "I have to thank the fans, they voted for this. For each and every person who voted, thank you so much."
Coldplay beat off competition from the likes of Arctic Monkeys and Elbow by being crowned 'Best British Group'. Frontman Chris Martin told the audience: "This is very humbling, we've been doing the Brits since most of your weren't born. We are so happy to get this award, thank you to everyone who still listens to us."
One Direction's legion of fans helped them win the 'British Single' award ahead of Olly Murs, Adele and Ed Sheeran among others for 'What Makes You Beautiful'.

The International prizes were given to Rihanna, Bruno Mars and Foo Fighters for the 'Female', 'Male' and 'Group' categories respectively.
Lana Del Rey was handed the 'International Breakthrough Act' award, and told the crowd: "This award means much more to me than you know. I just want to say that without the support of everyone in this room and in the UK, I'd really be lost, so thank you. I love you."
Adele was handed the biggest award of the night for 'Best Album', telling the crowd that she felt "proud" to be British after her recent Grammy success, although there was controversy when host James Corden was forced to cut short her acceptance speech to introduce Blur.

The Damon Albarn-fronted band - who were given the 'Outstanding Contribution' award - closed the event by performing a selection of their biggest hits, including 'Girls & Boys', 'Song 2' and 'Parklife', complete with EastEnders actor Phil Daniels.
Albarn said of their recognition: "Thank you very much, the last time we were here was 17 years ago. What happened that night seemed to have a profound effect on our lives.
"It is very nice to come back and say thank you very much for this honour."
