"I'm overwhelmed by everything that's happening right now," said the 17-year old. "My heart's always been as a solo singer. I love the Nu Vibe boys to bits, but now I want to put everything into making it on my own, and 'Boomerang' is the perfect start."
Johnson originally auditioned for The X Factor alone, wowing the audience with a cover of Ed Sheeran's 'The A Team'.
Nu Vibe were eliminated second in The X Factor's live shows in October.
'Boomerang' is released tomorrow (June 24).
