Martin Keown: 'Ronaldo is like an NFL basketball player' - video

Martin Keown has become a trending topic on Twitter during tonight's Euro 2012 match (June 21).

The BBC pundit was complimenting Cristiano Ronaldo during the Portugal vs Czech Republic game when he got two American sports franchises mixed.

He said: "[Ronaldo] is like an NFL basketball player."



While it may be considered an easy mistake for a non-US citizen, the words 'Martin Keown' and 'NFL' quickly trended for most of tonight's match on Twitter.

Many jokes were made about the gaffe, including Liverpool's The Kop magazine tweeting: "Fact of the day: Martin Keown plays FIFA Evolution on the Sony Xbox in his spare time."

Earlier this week, Simon Brotherton began trending on Twitter after he mistook David Silva for David Villa on several occasions.
