The Ugly Betty actress revealed her diamond engagement ring at the Edinburgh Film Festival on Wednesday, reports US Weekly.
The pair met at the University of Southern California years ago where they were both studying film and have been living together since 2007 with their adopted dog Buddy.
Ferrera previously denied rumours of a marriage proposal to W.
"It’s totally not true! And his mum called me and my sisters were calling me, and I was like, ‘Are you kidding? Did you not think I would tell you first?’" she said.
"And then I put out a statement that it wasn’t true, and that became a whole news story."
A rep for the actress confirmed the engagement.
