Scarlett Johansson has been invited to the Marine Corps Ball.
The Iron Man 2 star is the sixth celebrity to be asked to the November event. In a YouTube video, Sergeant Dustin L Williams tells the newly-divorced actress that he would be honoured if she would accompany him to the ball.
"It would be my pleasure to take you to the Marine Corps Ball and spend an evening with you," Williams says.
In an email, Williams told Zap2it that Johansson's acceptance would mean a lot, not just to him, but to the entire Marine Corps.
"[It would] truly be an honour not only for me but also my fellow Marines," Williams said. "Not only does it show their support for our troops, but it also [boosts] the morale of Marines as a whole."
He went on to say that he is confident Johansson will not turn him down without a reason.
"I would not believe the invitation would be denied without good cause," Williams said. "With her current career I would imagine Scarlett Johansson is a busy woman... Nothing ventured, nothing gained."
Friends with Benefits actress Mila Kunis was the first to be invited to the Marine Corps Ball, with her co-star Justin Timberlake receiving his own invite days later.
Since then, Betty White, Paul Walker and Miley Cyrus have also been invited to attend the event.
Last week, Johansson was linked romantically to The Hangover Part II actor Justin Bartha after the two were seen at dinner at the New York City café Un Deux Trois.
