The Lincoln Lawyer actor confirmed that he had proposed to his Brazilian lover on Christmas Day.
McConaughey broke the news to fans by posting a picture of the couple kissing before a festive backdrop on his Who Say blog, complete with the caption: "just asked camila to marry me, merry Christmas."
McConaughey and Alves began dating in 2006 and have two children together, Levi, three and one-year-old Vida.
The 42-year-old declared in March that he considers Alves to be his "perfect" woman.
"I found the woman I wanna do it with - the woman I wanna make a family with, hopefully live our life out together," he said.
