Maria Fowler has been criticised for a tweet about Muhammad Ali on Friday night (July 27).

The former Only Way Is Essex star asked her followers why the boxing legend - who suffers from Parkinson's syndrome - was unable to stand unaided during the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony.

"Ahhh wish I was there now so bad. muhammad Ali. No disrespect though but why can't he stand now? (sic)," she tweeted.

Online youth website SB.TV co-creator and Olympic torch runner Jamal Edwards criticised Fowler's decision to ask a question online instead of researching Ali first.

He wrote: "You are so DUMB! If I don't know a question I would go on the net first to find out especially what I'm talking about. Not go to Twitter & ask."

Fowler quickly responded: "I did google and couldn't know why. Parkinson's is so sad. I lost my grandad to Parkinson's. Ali is a legend x."

The exchange continued for some time afterwards, including Edwards posting a photo of Fowler on a rollercoaster with the word 'Pig' underneath.

Fowler replied: "Had to google u too but not much came up. Goat."

The reality TV star was recently embroiled in a war of words with X Factor runner-up Marcus Collins.
