The 18-year-old Team GB star earned a place on the podium at Saturday's (August 11) 10m platform final, a feat that he credited partly to Beckham's encouraging text messages after he and partner Pete Waterfield crashed out of the synchronised event earlier in the Games.

"He wanted to wish me well and to say keep your chin up," The Sun quotes Daley as saying. "David was asking how I've been feeling, giving me advice about what to take out of the synchro.
"He was kind of asking me the right questions, telling me it's not that bad and that I can come back."
Beckham was in the audience at the Aquatics Centre to watch Daley pick up his medal and later joined a host of famous faces in congratulating him online.
"Was great to catch up with @TomDaleyOfficial after the event last night, so happy for him after the year he's been through," Beckham wrote on Facebook.
Daley's victory was watched by 15.9m people on BBC One and earlier gave BBC Three its biggest audience of the Olympics.
