Samsung Series 9 ultrabook to go on sale this weekend

Samsung has announced that its new premium Series 9 notebook, considered one of the thinnest laptop computers in the world, will be made available in the UK this weekend.

The second generation of the Series 9 comes with an Intel Core i5 processor, runs Windows 7 and has up to 4GB of memory. Samsung claims that its Fast Solutions system ensures the Series 9 boots up more quickly and 'wakes up' in just 1.4 seconds. Web browsing is also claimed to be twice as fast.

The super-slim, 13.3-inch screen-toting Series 9 measures only half an inch (12.9mm) due to its single shell body, and weighs just 1.16kg (2.6 lbs). The product has a mineral ash finish with naturally matte aluminium sides, while the material has been "sand-blasted to offer a fingerprint resistant surface".

Samsung says that the Series 9 will have a battery life of up to 10 hours, up three hours on its predecessor, while the 180% brighter HD+ SuperBright Plus screen features an anti-reflective display for clear vision outdoors. Wireless performance has also been optimised.

"For those seeking the ultimate notebook, it doesn't get any better than this. We have tailor-made the components so that they fit into the notebook's single shell body ensuring it's as slim and light as possible," said Damian Cusick, the general manager of computing at Samsung UK and Ireland.

"We've taken performance to a whole new level to deliver impressive memory capacity, faster web browsing and a ten-hour battery life. What's more, the Series 9 looks very slick and sophisticated.

"The original Series 9 we launched in 2011 was a huge success for us. Since then, further innovations in technology have enabled us to improve on the design and functionality to deliver a truly revolutionary premium notebook."

The new Samsung Series 9 will be available exclusively from John Lewis in the UK from February 25 onwards, priced at £1,200. The product will come to other retailers, including Amazon, later this year.
