Strictly Come Dancing host Tess Daly has backed Alan Carr to replace Alesha Dixon on the show's panel.

The 42-year-old revealed that she has previously campaigned for the Chatty Man comedian to compete in Strictly, but now thinks he would be better suited to a judging role.

"He was on my list for ultimate contestants and now he's my Number one judge," she told the Daily Star. "He makes me die laughing and would be amazing on the show."

Dixon announced her departure from the Strictly Come Dancing panel on January 2 and was confirmed to be joining rival programme Britain's Got Talent hours later.

Former professional Karen Hardy has been named as Digital Spy readers' ideal replacement for Dixon, picking up over 40 percent of the vote in a poll taken by 11,000 people.

Singer Rachel Stevens told Digital Spy this week that she would like to land the Strictly Come Dancing job, joining the likes of Kara Tointon, Arlene Phillips, Russell Grant and Nicole Scherzinger on the list of rumoured replacements.
