Former Only Way Is Essex cast member Amy Childs has defended co-star Mark Wright's new show Hollywood Nights.

The glamour model described Wright's ITV2 programme, which has suffered in the ratings and been critically savaged, as "brilliant" if "a little cheesy".

"I don't know why Mark Wright got so much bad press over his show," she wrote in her New column. "I think it is brilliant.

"Ok, so some bits in the first episode were a little cheesy, but it's filmed in Hollywood, so it's to be expected."

Childs went on to predict that Mark Wright's Hollywood Nights could become a sleeper hit like the show that made them both famous.

"I think people have forgotten that The Only Way Is Essex was slated after the first show and then went up to almost two million viewers," she argued. "Give it a chance, I say."

Childs saw her own spinoff show It's All About Amy axed by Channel 5 in January.

She is currently readying a UK remake of Paris Hilton's The Simple Life featuring her cousin and fellow TOWIE veteran Harry Derbidge.
