Channel 5 is bringing back a limited amount of live feed for the new series of Celebrity Big Brother.

The reality show, which is based around the concept of 24-hour surveillance, did not feature any live feed during its first series on the network.

Despite protests from fans of the programme, Channel 5's controller Jeff Ford gave reasons including cost and a lack of significant interest from viewers as an explanation for the resource's axing. The broadcaster opted instead to focus more finances on social networking elements such as Facebook and Twitter pages.

However, Channel 5 has made a partial U-turn on the subject, bringing back short bursts of live feed on its sister channel 5*.

5* will have hour-long stints of live feed after major events such as evictions or new housemates arriving on the show. The live feed will fill a gap between Brian Dowling's live shows and Emma Willis spinoff Bit On The Side.

Tinchy Stryder, Nicola McLean, X Factor's Frankie Cocozza, Natasha Giggs and Loose Women star Denise Welch are among the celebrities tipped to be taking part in the 2012 series.

Celebrity Big Brother starts on January 5 at 9pm on Channel 5.
