Deadline reports that Los Angeles native Roy Colbert has filed the lawsuit with allegations that the rapper and cable network stole his idea for the show about gangs.
According to Colbert, Ice-T and A&E are in direct violation of an implied contract from August 7, 2008 in which Colbert came up with the idea for a documentary series about the crusade to end gang violence in Los Angeles, based on his own experiences.
Colbert claims he provided his idea, which he called Banging Peace, to both A&E and Ice-T through the rapper's manager Chris Smith.
He says it was "fully and clearly understood" that the show idea could only be used if he was involved with the production and compensated.
The Peacemaker, a five-part series which aired in December 2010, is identical to the Banging Peace idea, according to Colbert.
In the suit, he is seeking compensation, including interest and coverage for court costs.
Ice-T has yet to speak publicly on the pending lawsuit.
