The History of Violence star made the announcement on his official Facebook page.
"[I am] working on Being Human in Montreal for the next few months!" Schmid wrote on the social networking site.
"I've had a great time working with Sam Witwer, Sam Huntington and Meaghan Rath thus far. You guys are gonna love this!"
No further details about Schmid's role are currently known. The actor's previous credits include such films as 2005's The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants and the same year's Vin Diesel comedy The Pacifier.
Being Human was picked up for a second season by Syfy back in March. The show's series premiere attracted 1.96m viewers, the most-watched scripted series debut for the cable network since 2005.
Former Dollhouse star Dichen Lachman has also joined the cast of Being Human as a series regular.
The actress will play Izumi, an ancient vampire who causes problems when she returns to Boston.
Being Human will return to Syfy in 2012.
