Cee Lo told him: "You have a very unique voice and I want to help polish and refine what you do have naturally. I also want people to bear witness to growth."
Speaking to social media correspondent Christina Milian backstage about who he wanted as a coach, he said: "First I'm like, oh, I think Blake, because I'm a songwriter, then Adam because we work in the same genre, then right before I stepped on the stage I said, I really hope Cee Lo picks me.
"I thought that would be a killer relationship and he'd get what I'm trying to do. It was perfect, totally uncanny, and just amazing. I feel like I wouldn't have had a bad scenario and I had the perfect scenario now."

As for what he hopes to get from working with Cee Lo, he said: "He's not trying to do what's happening, he's trying to do what is going to happen.
"That's something I always tried to do in my music, be ahead of the ball a little bit, and I think in that sphere we can do some great stuff together."
