'The Good Son' will focus on Director Vance (Rocky Carroll), exploring the character's personal and family life.
Dreamgirls actor Sims will play Vance's brother-in-law Michael, according to TV Guide.
Michael will be unexpectedly drawn into Vance's work life when he becomes the lead suspect in a murder case.
Sims was previously a series regular on Starz drama Crash and has also appeared in episodes of Franklin & Bash, Bones and Criminal Minds.
His NCIS appearance will air on March 27.
The CBS drama continues on Tuesdays at 8/7c.
