'Big Love' star Jeanne Tripplehorn joins Zooey Deschanel's 'New Girl'

Jeanne Tripplehorn will appear in two episodes of Fox comedy New Girl.

Dermot Mulroney recently signed up to play a love interest for Zooey Deschanel's Jess on the sitcom.

Big Love's Tripplehorn will play the frosty ex-wife of Mulroney's character Russell, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The actress is best known for starring in such films as 1992's Basic Instinct, 1999's Mickey Blue Eyes and 2002's Swept Away.

She will appear in episodes 20 and 21 of New Girl's first season, due to air in late March and early April.

Freaks and Geeks actor Martin Starr also recently signed up to appear on New Girl. He will play an old friend of Nick (Jake Johnson), who arrives in New York following a bad break-up with his fiancée.

New Girl continues on Tuesdays on Fox in the US and on Fridays on Channel 4 in the UK.
