Brody (Damian Lewis), meanwhile, will cross paths with a "beautiful Middle Eastern woman who comes bearing an ultimatum", according to TV Line.
New characters set to appear in Homeland include a chief of staff for Brody and Vice President Walden's son Finn, who apparently gets to know Brody's daughter Dana (Morgan Saylor).
A trailer for season two of Homeland, which debuts on Showtime on September 30, has also been released.
Showrunner Alex Gansa previously explained that Carrie will be a "very different" character in the second season, having "willed herself into a place of mental health".
Homeland airs on Channel 4 on Sundays in the UK.
