Williams's character Jackson began dating Lexie (Chyler Leigh) some time ago and the actor explained that he likes the dynamic.
"I'm excited for Jackson to have a partner in crime," he told TV Line. "And to have somebody who's a confidante and [to explore] new avenues with."
Williams added: "As an actor, [I] welcome the opportunity to have a relationship [on screen] with somebody or have an enemy or rivalry or a new friend, anybody that gives you more work to do [and] makes the process more interesting. I've talked with the writers a little bit, and I think there are a lot of different ways it could go."
Williams and Leigh have previously admitted that they expected fans to be unhappy with their romance as it interfered with Lexie's relationship with Mark (Eric Dane).
Grey's Anatomy will return for new episodes on ABC in the fall. The show continues in the UK on Wednesdays at 10pm on Sky Living.
