The child actor will play Alexander Drew, a member of the Vampire Authority, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Transformed into a vampire at age 9, the impulsive, unpredictable Drew likes to taunt those around him.
Hopkins has previously appeared in episodes of How I Met Your Mother and played a small role in the 2011 film Priest, which also featured True Blood's Stephen Moyer.
Other stars to have signed up for roles on True Blood include Law & Order: SVU's Christopher Meloni and Spartacus actor Peter Mensah.
The HBO drama's fifth season is currently in production and will premiere this summer.
